A distributed and self-organized laboratory that connects people, projects and resources to collectively transform society through Citizen Innovation.
The IC Collaboratory is an inclusive, self-organized and collaborative space that promotes connection and action between agents of the Citizen Innovation (CI) ecosystem across different territories. It functions as an open and distributed working group that collaborates and shares resources to develop projects with common goals.
Citizen Innovation involves the active participation of people and communities in creating solutions tailored to their own realities. By articulating different parts of the ecosystem, the IC Collaboraty seeks to recognize and organize resources and networks, sharing knowledge and experiences among agents from Spain, Latin America and Europe.
This space emerged in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, following the meeting “Y SI NOS ENREDAMOS?” promoted by the Frena la Curva project. That event highlighted the need to build alliances and envision more horizontal forms of articulation within the CI ecosystem.
The initial objectives were:
To raise visibility and strengthen Citizen Innovation as a collective tool for social transformation.
To generate meeting and co-ideation spaces to share strategies and methodologies.
To promote effective coordination between local, national and international actors.
The diversity and involvement of multiple stakeholders in building the IC Collaboratory has enriched the initiative with valuable conceptual and strategic insights- However, the lack of resources to maintain even a minimal structure for ongoing coordination limits its potential impact.
Through co-ideation, debates and collective construction sessions, used as key strategies to foster collective intelligence and shared knowledge, the IC Collaboratory Manifesto was created.
