A tool to respond to city challenges collaboratively

 

Coboi lab is a relational, knowledge and prototyping space to face social challenges collaboratively in the territory.

To fulfill this role, Coboi lab has worked during 2019 and 2020 to conceptualize and design a transversal and transferable method that guides the processes of ideation, design, prototyping and testing innovative solutions that respond to complex challenges, always from a collaborative and multi-stakeholder approach.

Coboi lab has had the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council to research existing methodologies in the field of social innovation (theoretical perspective) while analyzing and compiling the entire process that the Sant Boi City Council has carried out to respond to specific city challenges (practical perspective).

In parallel, this entire process has also allowed us to understand in greater depth and validate the role played by new public instruments such as social innovation laboratories in responding to the challenges of the territory from a more systemic perspective.

PHASE 1: OBSERVATION
We begin with the Observation phase, in which we define a city challenge based on a problem in the territory, and analyze the capacity to solve it collaboratively. This first phase is key to establishing clear foundations and increasing the chances of success of the entire process.

PHASE 2: EXPLORATION
During the Exploration phase, we identify and integrate the different perspectives and interests of the actors involved in the city challenge to unify priorities and define a shared vision.

PHASE 3: ACTION PLAN
During the Action Plan phase, we begin to collaboratively devise and design actions for each defined axis of action, which will bring us closer to the shared vision of the future.

PHASE 4: IMPLEMENTATION
During the Implementation phase, we design prototypes of the prioritized actions and plan their subsequent implementation. We also collectively decide how to measure results, monitor and evaluate the impact of the implemented actions.
