Last Friday, May 27, together with the Sant Boi City Council, we organized the “Electric Vehicle Conference: Future Perspectives and Shared Visions.” The aim was to create a meeting point between automotive experts, companies in the sector, and institutions to share reflections and experiences on the transformation the automotive industry is currently undergoing.
The conference was opened by the Mayor, Lluïsa Moret, who stated that “Sant Boi wants to be a benchmark in the process of ecological transition.” This event was framed within the 2030 Agenda, in which Sant Boi is a pilot municipality of the Spanish Urban Agenda, the roadmap for building healthier and more sustainable cities. She was followed by Toni Mora, Vice President of the Sant Boi Motor Dealers Association and representative of the electric vehicle working group of the City Pact. This sector seeks to “transform our business models, moving from being car sellers to providing services to citizens.” He concluded by expressing his willingness to make Sant Boi a hub for experimentation in sustainable mobility.
The first activity of the conference focused on exploring the near-future perspectives of the electric vehicle. This was followed by a series of talks from various experts mapping the potential opportunities and challenges of electric vehicles. Carolyn Daher, from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, warned about the negative consequences of electric vehicles (on health, the heat island effect, the distribution of public space, etc.). Carmen Ruiz and Carles Conill presented the transformation of the C-245, from a road into a street, aiming for better urban integration. Elisabet Latorre and Vicenç Muñoz presented the Sant Boi Motor initiative, followed by Evarm and Som Mobilitat, who showcased electric and hydrogen vehicles.
Participants collaboratively explored future perspectives of electric mobility across its entire value chain (manufacturing, sales, services, R&D). They then identified difficulties and opportunities associated with the change of model, categorized into territory, health, sector, and technology. Finally, they defined common challenges and a shared vision for the future to continue moving forward.
The event concluded with final remarks on the next steps by Carlos Aldana, Director of the Sustainable and Healthy City Department, and the closing address was given by José Ángel Carcelén, Deputy Mayor.
